Riverside West Elementary Once Again Statewide Recycling Competition Champion

In October 2012, “GreenSylvania,” a statewide school paper recycling competition, was held in conjunction with Keep America Beautiful’s Recycle-Bowl that included 36 participating schools from across the Commonwealth.

After all of the recycled paper was collected, weighed, and divided by each school’s population, the students of Riverside West Elementary, located in Taylor, Lackawanna County came away with the victory for the second year in a row.

They recycled a total of 9,100 pounds of paper during the 2012 competition – a whopping 25.2 pounds of paper per person at the school.

The Riverside West Elementary School will once again receive the traveling trophy made from recycled materials to display with pride for all to see. In addition, they will receive a performance by The Illusion Maker which has been funded in part by Keep America Beautiful, as a reward for their efforts in the Recycle-Bowl and Greensylvania competitions. Riverside West Elementary was also the Recycle-Bowl winner for Pennsylvania.

The GreenSylvania competition is sponsored by the Professional Recyclers of Pennsylvania.
