Delaware Highlands, Pike County Host Native Plants Walk June 8
|
Join the Pike County Scenic Rural Character Preservation Program and the Delaware Highlands Conservancy for a Native Plants Walk on June 8 at the Beaver Run Hunting and Fishing Club property in Dingmans Ferry, PA from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Renowned author and botanist Dr. Ann Rhoads will lead the walk and discuss, illustrate, and answer your questions about native plants and their habitats. Dr. Rhoads’ books include “The Plants of Pennsylvania,” “The Vascular Flora of Pennsylvania,” “Trees of Pennsylvania,” and most recently, "Aquatic Plants of Pennsylvania." Dr. Rhoads was the Director of Botany for Morris Arboretum and taught Botany at the University of Pennsylvania. The 857-acre, natural resource-rich Beaver Run property in southern Pike County was permanently protected last December with funds from the Pike County’s Scenic Rural Character Preservation Program, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and the Common Waters Fund. Made up of healthy forests and exceptionally clean waters, the property is home to native brook trout, eagles, beaver, otters, and other wildlife. The three public trails that will cross the protected property connect adjacent blocks of the Delaware State Forest. This walk is free and open to the public, but prior registration is required. To reserve your space and receive directions, please call the Delaware Highlands Conservancy office at 570-226-3164 or send email to: info@delawarehighlands.org. |
