What's The Status Of Your Water System’s Source Water Protection Program?
|
Every community water system is encouraged to be proactive and develop a source water protection plan to enhance the reliability and sustainability of the sources they rely upon. Pennsylvania Safe Drinking Water regulations direct public water suppliers to find and utilize the best sources available and take measures necessary to protect those sources by defining wellhead protection, setting permitting requirements for groundwater resources, and setting forth requirements for state approval of local Source Water Protection programs. Unfortunately, because the SWP program is voluntary, far too few DEP-approved Source Water Protection Plans are in place. Visit DEP’s Source Water Protection website to see if your system has a protection plan and to watch a video about this important protection measure. |
