PennFuture Appoints Jim Abernathy Interim President

PennFuture Monday announced the appointment of Jim Abernathy as interim president and chief executive officer of the statewide environmental organization.

He succeeds environmental lawyer George Jugovic, Jr., who will now chair the organization's law staff.

A national search is also underway for a permanent chief executive, to be based in Harrisburg.

"We're excited to have Jim on board as we position our staff to work as effectively as possible across the state," said David Lane, chairman of the PennFuture board of directors. "Jim is a seasoned manager with a wealth of experience as a steward of environmental organizations, and his steady hand will guide our day-to-day operations. With our legal work as the backbone of our efforts to protect Pennsylvania's environment, it's a natural fit to have George as chair of our law staff."

A permanent chief executive is expected to be installed by fall 2013.
