Women across the mid-Atlantic region who own, care for, or are interested in learning more about forestland are invited to apply to attend the third annual Women and Their Woods (WaTW) Educational Retreat from September 26-29 at Camp Susque in Trout Run, Lycoming County.

The four-day workshop is full of exciting educational programs and field trips related to the care and management of forestland. The result is a friendly, peer-learning environment and connection to a network of educated landowners and natural resource professionals.

Topics and activities in indoor and outdoor sessions include forest ecology, wildlife, estate and financial planning, calculating the value in your forest, forest plant identification, and more. WaTW graduates go on to serve as mentors for other landowners in their communities in the proper stewardship of their lands.

According to Maggie Heyward, landowner and former WaTW retreat graduate, “Being with other women at the retreat was important to me because I think women approach forest stewardship a little differently. I now feel that I have a good network of resources -- people and information -- to use to educate others about good forest stewardship practices. My efforts are being validated by gatherings like this one. It was amazing to have access to people who give a lot of thought to issues that I have had questions about for years."

The cost to attend the four‐day retreat is $130 and covers lodging and meals. The application deadline is August 15.
