Penn State Offers Resources To Celebrate Groundwater Day September 10

Penn State Extension and the Master Well Owner Network are pleased to announce a variety of educational efforts and resources in recognition of the National Ground Water Association’s Protect Your Groundwater Day on September 10.

Groundwater protection strategies are especially important in Pennsylvania which is home to over one million private water wells and springs but is one of the few states that do not provide statewide regulations to protect these rural drinking water supplies.

Live Webinar

A live webinar will be broadcast from noon to 1 p.m. entitled Strategies to Protect Private Wells and Springs in Pennsylvania to highlight basic management strategies that homeowners can use to ensure safe drinking water for their household.

The webinar will also highlight numerous Penn State publications and web tools for private water well and spring owners available on their website.

During the evening of September 10, Penn State water resources educators will present a Safe Drinking Water Clinic in Ebensburg, PA for water well and spring owners. This will be the first in a series of Safe Drinking Water Clinics which will be offered around the state in the next 12 months. Most of these clinics will include greatly discounted water testing through Penn State’s state accredited water testing laboratory.

Later in September, Penn State Extension will also offer an online training course for its Master Well Owner Network which includes hundreds of trained volunteers who have educated over 30,000 private water well and spring owners since 2004.

The Penn State Extension Water Resources team, along with Master Well Owners provides education and assistance for thousands of private water well and spring owners across Pennsylvania each year. Tune in on September 10 to learn more about our resources and how to protect your groundwater!
