Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful local affiliates of Keep Cambria County Beautiful, Keep Huntingdon County Beautiful, Keep Juniata County Beautiful, PA CleanWays of Mifflin County, and Keep Perry County Beautiful are gearing up to hold their annual fall tire collections.

Collection dates, times and locations are as follows:

-- Cambria County, September 7 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Tunnelhill Borough Municipal Building;

-- Perry County, September 14 from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Loysville Community Club Park;

-- Juniata County, September 21 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Hilltop Oil & Minit Mart vacant lot; and

-- Mifflin County, September 21 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Borough of Lewistown Refuse Yard.

In the past eight years the collections, sponsored in part by the Department of Environmental Protection’s HHW/Small Business Hazardous Waste Collection Program, have gathered over 31,000 tires from local residents.

“These collections provide a convenient, low cost alternative to the community. The tires that are collected at these events won’t end up over the hill where they would be difficult and costly to remove,” said Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania beautiful.  “I really commend our affiliates for providing this service.”

This year also marks the eighth Tire War between Keep Huntingdon County Beautiful, Keep Juniata County Beautiful, PA CleanWays of Mifflin County, and Keep Perry County Beautiful.

These four affiliates engage in an annual friendly rivalry to compete for the most tires collected at their perspective collections. The winner receives a hand-made “Gold Rim” award.

Contact your local County affiliate for cost information.
