Pittsburgh-Based PPG Launches New Energy Efficient Residential Glass Website

PPG Industries has launched a new residential glass website to help homeowners more easily shop for windows and window glass.

Divided into five chapters, the site is highlighted by a comprehensive “Understanding Window Glass” section that describes how insulating glass units (IGUs) help save energy, the benefits of energy-efficient windows, and how low-emissivity (low-e) glass works. There also is a glossary and a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) that addresses issues such as the best types of window glass for specific climates.

A separate section on low-e glass contains detailed information about SOLARBAN 70XL, Solarban 67 and Solarban 60 solar control, low-e glasses and SUNGATE 600, Sungate 500 and Sungate 400 passive, low-e glasses.

In addition to providing downloadable performance data for each product, visitors can link to a manufacturer locator to identify companies that sell windows made with PPG glass in their areas.

The upgraded site also houses a separate resource center for residential window manufacturers. A Technical Information section links directly to the PPG Technical Library, Glass Design Guidelines, Thermal Stress Analysis, Material Safety Data Sheets and “Quality Now” Manual for the INTERCEPT spacer system, which is the industry’s most commonly used insulating spacer system.

There also are comparative data tools, such as the PPG glass performance calculator, and a downloadable brochure with details about the PPG Residential IG Service Center in Carlisle, Pa. – a full-service fabrication facility that supplements the internal manufacturing capabilities of window manufacturers using PPG glass.

Bradley P. Boone, PPG market manager, residential segment, flat glass, said the new site features more content and better navigation than the one it replaced, along with more integrated links and functionality.

“We did a lot of research with customers and end-users to determine the content that was most important to them and how to access it more readily,” he explained. “I think visitors will find that this site makes glass information easier to find and understand.”
