Prize Winning Author Tom Hylton To Speak On Greening Communities Oct. 8 In HBG

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation-PA and The Civic Club of Harrisburg proudly present an evening with Pulitzer Prize winner and author Tom Hylton.

Hylton, author of  “Save our Land, Save our Towns,” will speak to a broad audience on October 8th about the major issues Pennsylvania communities grapple with, and how beautification and smart growth can improve our communities and our waters.

This free event is open to the public and is being held at The Civic Club of Harrisburg, 612 North Front St., on October 8, 2013 at 7:00 p.m..

CBF and partners are offering this presentation as a kick-off to our 8-week environmental leadership training, held at various locations throughout Harrisburg, and as part of City Beautiful 2.0— a grassroots movement to make Harrisburg more beautiful and sustainable.

Both the training and the evening presentation will provide participants with more information about the Pennsylvania Clean Water Blueprint, and how local citizens and officials can utilize green infrastructure techniques to help meet the commitments the Commonwealth has made to reduce pollution in local waterways, like the Susquehanna River.

Cities like Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Lancaster have been using green infrastructure techniques to beautify communities and to lessen the impacts of polluted stormwater runoff – making our communities greener and our waters cleaner. Both the presentation and the training will help to frame water quality issues in ways that are relevant to community leaders in the Harrisburg area.

Partners Include: Chesapeake Bay Foundation, City Beautiful 2.0, Community Action Commission, Covenant Community Corporation, Green Urban Initiative, Growing Strong, The Rain Barrel Coalition, The Civic Club of Harrisburg, and TreeVitalize.

This event is free, but interested participants are encouraged to RSVP. For more information on the event, the training, and to RSVP, contact Andrew Bliss, Grassroots Coordinator, The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, by sending email to: abliss@cbf.org.
