United States Gypsum Co. announced it will construct a new 600,000-square-foot gypsum board manufacturing facility on 190 acres of land adjacent to PPL Corporation’s existing generating station in Washingtonville, Montour County. PPL’s Montour Station will provide 2,500 tons of material a day to the wall board plant. PPL now neutralizes and beneficially reuses the sludge to make a product called StabilFill that is used for construction fill. In the process, United States Gypsum Co. will create at least 150 new jobs within three years following a construction period which begins in 2006. The total cost of the project will be approximately $180 million. NewsClip: Drywall Plant to Bring 150 Jobs to Montour |
