Volunteers Needed For TreeVitalize Tree Planting Oct. 5 In Lehigh Valley

Volunteers are needed to help with the planting of 600 along the Jordan Creek in the Trexler Nature Preserve in Allentown on October 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The trees are being donated and planted as a result of WDIY 88.1 FM, the Lehigh Valley community NPR station’s spring membership drive.

The joint-effort is a project of TreeVitalize, a public-private partnership coordinated by DCNR, which is committed to helping to restore tree cover, educate citizens about planting trees as an act of caring for the environment, and building capacity among local governments to understand, protect and restore their urban trees.

Additional supporters were Lehigh County Parks and Just Born, Inc.

“We are thrilled to once again partner with DCNR and Lehigh County Parks on this project. And it’s equally thrilling to include Just Born in the event. It’s a perfect example of how our organizations are able to work together for the overall betterment of the Lehigh Valley.” said Rebecca Walz, WDIY development director.

The Trexler Nature Preserve offers Lehigh Valley residents the opportunity to explore and experience nature, with eighteen miles of trails for wildlife observation, bird watching, hiking, walking, horse-back riding, mountain-biking, fishing and picnicking.

To sign up to plant trees call WDIY at 610-694-8100.
