National, State Outdoor Writers Groups Honor DCNR's Terry Brady

A newspaper column focusing on the value of fishing in helping businesses rebound from hardship in the wake of Hurricane Sandy earned national writing honors for DCNR Deputy Press Secretary Terry Brady.

Brady placed second in annual Excellence in Crafts competition sponsored by the Outdoor Writers Association of America Inc. (OWAA). Entitled “After Sandy, Reach Out to Help Those in Need,’’ Brady’s column was honored September 16 at the OWAA’s 86th annual conference in Lake Placid, N.Y. It was judged in the “Fishing -- Newspaper” category after appearing November. 23, 2012, in Pennsylvania Outdoor News.

Another newspaper column focusing on the rebirth of a fishing rod once used by his late father earned Brady a first-place, Excellence in Crafts awards in competition sponsored by the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers (POWA). That piece, entitled “Ode to an Old Pole and the Man Who Heaved It,” appeared June 22, 2012, in Pennsylvania Outdoor News.

Focusing on the trials and rewards of refinishing a 60-year-old surf rod once used by his dad, Brady’s column was honored with the Best Regional Newspaper or Magazine Column Award in POWA ceremonies in early May in Franklin, Venango County.
