Flood Recovery Info, Federal Shutdown Has Not Closed Stream Gages Yet

Records amounts of rain in the center part of the state are causing stream and some river flooding in Pennsylvania.  Listen to local media in your area for the latest results.  You can also also keep track of current flooding conditions by going to the NOAA Mid-Atlantic Current River Forecasts webpage.  (It was not closed due to the federal shutdown.)

If you experience flooding, visit the Department of Environmental Protection’s Flood Recovery webpage (at the bottom) for fact sheets on flood cleanup, waste disposal, disinfecting wells and more.

The Public Utility Commission also has available a fact sheet on what not to do around downed power lines.

If you have natural gas service and your house has flooded and any of your natural gas appliances (including furnaces, boilers, water heaters and dryers) have been affected, they may not be safe to use. Contact the gas company, a licensed gas technician or HVAC contractor for an inspection.

If you smell gas, or if flood waters have risen above your gas meter and regulator set, call 911 or your gas company immediately.

The Department of Insurance has information available on how to file claims under your homeowners insurance and flood insurance policies.
