Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy To Honor 7 With Environmental Awards

Ensuring that community efforts to protect and improve the local environment are publicly acknowledged, the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy will recognize seven distinct contributors with a 2013 Environmental Award in Montgomery County.

Andrew Meadows, Conservancy Board Chair, shared enthusiastically, “It is our great pleasure to recognize these outstanding contributors to our local environment.  With a 362 square-mile watershed, the scale of what the Conservancy is able to accomplish is due to a great network of volunteers, concerned citizens and organizations.”

Award recipients or their work must be located within the 362 square-mile Perkiomen Creek Watershed.  The 2013 Environmental Award recipients are:

-- Kids Making a Difference – Shanna Law and Sherri Law

-- Advocate of the Watershed – Dr. Timothy Block, Morris Arboretum

-- Corporate – SKF USA, Inc.

-- Municipal – Lower Providence Township

-- Land Use – The Vineyards Community, Pennsburg

-- Preston Luitweiler Friend of the Watershed – Pam Bowen

-- Teaching Excellence – Patrick Hurley, Ph.D, Ursinus College

“Through their various efforts and contributions of time, energy and resources, the 2013 Environmental Awards recipients have made a lasting contribution to protecting and/or preserving the natural resources of our region.  We are all grateful to these individuals and organizations for helping to maintain the Perkiomen Creek Watershed as a wonderful place to live, work and play,” said Meadows.

Awards will be presented at the Conservancy’s annual Environmental Awards Banquet + Silent Auction Benefit on October 24 at RiverCrest Golf Club and Preserve.

The Conservancy welcomes Exelon Generation and First Niagara as Premier Sponsors and Barry Isett Associates and Superior Tube Company as Supporting Sponsors of the event.
