|
Rep. Gary Haluska (D-Cambria) announced Tuesday Morgan's Excavating LLC of Mt. Union, Pa. was recently awarded a $36,704 state contract for a mine reclamation project in Cambria County. The contract is for work at the former Bakerton No. 3 site, located in West Carroll Township. The project includes demolishing and removing mine facilities, implementing an erosion and sediment control plan, clearing and grading more than 4,400 square yards at the site, and other work. Rep. Haluska said the work is expected to begin on or around Nov. 15 and be completed by March 25, 2014. The contract was awarded by the Department of Environmental Protection under the state's Abandoned Mine Reclamation Program. The program was designed to mitigate problems such as mine fires, mine subsidence, dangerous highwalls, open shafts, mining-impacted water supplies and other hazards resulting from past coal-mining activity in Pennsylvania. |
