In Memorium: William M. Heenan, Former Steel Recycling Institute President, KPB Chair

On December 6 William M. Heenan, Jr., the former President of the Pittsburgh-base Steel Recycling Institute and a chair of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, passed away at the age of 65. 

Heenan was president of SRI from 1990-2010. Prior to joining SRI, Heenan was general manager, tin mill products, for the United States Steel Corp., a position to which he was appointed in 1988.

He was a lifetime board member of the National Recycling Coalition, served as a board member of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. and was chair of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.

In May the Steel Market Development Institute announced Heenan as the 2013 recipient of the Steel Market Development Institute Lifetime Achievement Award.

Heenan was recently honored by the Pennsylvania Recycling Markets Center which named its annual recycling award the William M. Heenan, Jr. Pennsylvania Recycling Markets Development Award.
