Penn State Extension: Youth Water Educator’s Summit Sept. 25, Call For Presentations

Youth water education continues to be an important part of protecting and restoring America’s valuable water resources. Penn State Extension is proud to host the second ever Dive Deeper Summit for youth water educators in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Whether it’s in the classroom, at a nature center, during a 4-H or scout meeting, or at summer camp, youth can gain the skills and knowledge they need to become future stewards of our water resources.

Dive Deeper II will feature opportunities to learn new and innovative approaches to teaching youth about water, networking among your water education peers, and updates about important issues affecting water in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

This second bi-annual youth water educator’s summit will be held in Harrisburg on September 25.

Call for Proposals

Please take the time to consider submitting a proposal to be a presenter or exhibitor at Dive Deeper II.  Proposals are due February 28.

We are seeking interested speakers and exhibitors to share their knowledge, experiences, and resources about water that would be useful to both formal and informal educators working with youth.

Please share this request for proposals with your contacts who may be interested in presenting or exhibiting!

We are seeking presenters for:

-- Concurrent session offerings that happen throughout the day. Concurrent sessions will be approximately 45-50 minutes long; and

-- Exhibitors to display materials in the conference common areas throughout the entire day.

You may submit proposals for one or both of these opportunities.

There are no limitations in regards to topics to propose for presentations, but here is a list of ideas to get you thinking about what we are hoping offer in 2014:

-- New curriculum or teaching tools for youth water education;

-- Using technology to teach about water;

-- Current Issues/Topics (mineral extraction, climate change, invasive species, land use) as they relate to water in the Mid-Atlantic Region;

-- Teaching about water to diverse audiences; and

-- STEM Education approaches to teaching about water.

Notification of accepted proposals will be made by March 31. Presenters will be expected to register for the Dive Deeper Summit (registration will open in the spring and is expected to cost approximately $45/person.)

Proposal Submissions Include:

-- Concurrent Sessions: Title (approximately 10 words), Brief Summary For Program Materials (approximately 50 words), and Complete Presentation Description (approximately 200 words); and

-- Exhibits: Brief Organizational Bio (or description of display topic if not organization specific) (approximately 50 words).
