PA League Of Women Voters Primer On Pipelines Feb. 25 In Clarion

The League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania, through a grant from the Colcom Foundation, will be presenting a Primer on Pipelines on February 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gemmell MultiPurpose Room at Clarion University.

Conventional natural gas extraction has been part of Clarion County for decades. However, natural gas extraction in the Marcellus Shale is a game changer. We are all shareholders in this change and pipelines in our communities are a significant part of this change.

The featured speaker, Dr. Roberta Winters coordinator of the LWVPA statewide studies on natural gas extraction from Marcellus Shale and pipelines, will be focusing on “An Ounce of Prevention.”

She will discuss the basic components of the infrastructure, your role in assuring pipeline safety, the agencies responsible for its oversight and siting, and resources to help with planning for pipelines in your neighborhood.

Dr. Winters served two terms on the State Board of the LWVPA as Director for Natural Resources and as Vice President for Issues and Action respectively.  She coordinated the Marcellus Shale Natural Gas Extraction Study Guides and chaired the addendum studies on Pipeline and Pooling.

Roberta Winters will be joined by David L. Dunn and Doug Kepler for an open session of questions and answers about pipeline issues.  David Dunn is currently working for Clarion County Office of Emergency Services as the OES Deputy-Planner. Doug Kepler is currently the Vice President of Environmental Engineering for Seneca Resources.
