Radon Outreach and Education Grant Awarded to DEP

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced it has again this year helped fund the radon outreach and education program of the Department of Environmental Protection.

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. with an estimated 20,000 deaths per year.

Through a combination of a special webpage, a hotline to answer questions and a certification program for radon testing and mitigation firms, DEP has one of the most comprehensive radon programs in the nation. Radon was first discovered in Pennsylvania as a health problem affecting the general public in 1984.

As we approach the heating season and spend more time indoors, it’s a good time to check to see if radon is a problem in your home, business or school.
