Chesapeake Bay Foundation-PA Sponsors Discover Canoe Trips In June, July, August

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation-PA has three opportunities for the public to explore the Susquehanna River, Swatara Creek, and the Yellow Breeches Creek by canoe hosted through CBF’s Bay Discovery Program.

The trips are open to anyone, no matter the paddling skill-level.  The canoe trips will be held--

-- June 24: Explore the Yellow Breeches – 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Messiah College to Lower Allen Community Park, Cumberland County;

-- July 10: Swatara Creek Paddle  - 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Hershey to Hummelstown, Dauphin County; and

-- August 2: Susquehanna River – 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Trip begins north of Millersburg in Port Trevorton, Dauphin County.

The Susquehanna River is integral to the health of the Chesapeake Bay. With hundreds of rivers, creeks, and streams flowing into the nearly 444 mile-long Susquehanna, it ultimately provides over half of the fresh water to the Bay.

These trips will provide paddlers with a unique opportunity to explore the waters, wildlife, plants, and aquatic species found in the Susquehanna Valley.

Detailed paddling instruction and demonstration, as well as basic on-water safety training will be provided prior to each trip. Equipment including canoes, paddles, and lifejackets will be supplied.

Participants should be prepared to be outside for several hours and wear appropriate clothing and footwear for canoeing and water activity.

Each trip is offered to the public for a $15 fee, discounted for CBF members.

To register for a trip, visit CBF’s Discover Canoe Trips in PA webpage. If you have questions or would like more information about these trips, contact Bart Jaeger by sending email to: bjaeger@cbf.org.
