DEP Helps Students Learn About Water Quality At HydroMania Festival

More than 1,200 elementary school students from nearly 15 different Lehigh Valley Schools attended the HydroMania Festival on May 8 in Allentown.

The annual event held at Cedar Crest College features different “stations” for groups of students to visit and learn about the value of water.  The students learned about conserving water, how it is treated and the purpose and value of a “watershed.”

Six DEP staffers from the Bethlehem Regional Office set up a booth to educate students about DEP's regulatory role in protecting drinking water.  They also showed students what they can do to keep their drinking water clean.

While participating in the exhibit portion of the program, students also completed a “scavenger hunt” that contained a list of questions that could only be answered by visiting each organization’s exhibit.
