Sen. Tim Solobay (D-Washington) Wednesday recognized key leaders in the fight against illegal dumping in Washington County on June 13 at an illegal dumpsite along South Sunset Beach Road in East Finley Township that was recently cleaned through the partnership between Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and the Washington County Court System Furlough Into Service (FITS) Program.

To date, the partnership has removed 261,000 pounds of trash and 3,200 tires. As a means of deterring illegal dumping, signs and high-tech cameras are being erected at previously cleaned sites as well as random sites throughout the County.

The cameras are capable of capturing license plate numbers and vehicle descriptions in day or night. The cameras are being rotated throughout the County.

“East Finley Township would like to express its sincere appreciation to state Senator Timothy Solobay, the Washington County Commissioners, President  Judge Debbie O’Dell Seneca, the staff of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and especially the FITS Program workers for helping to clean up our municipality. The quick and efficient response to this request was very gratifying, and the residents of East Finley Township applaud the results,” said Melissa Metz, East Finley Township Secretary/Treasurer.

A sign stands at the spot on South Sunset Beach Road warning would be dumpers that the area is under surveillance and all evidence will be used to prosecute individuals to the fullest extent of the law.
