Friends of the Wissahickon volunteers helped mark National Trails Day on June 7 by working to restore a section of the Wissahickon’s Orange Trail in Mt. Airy, Philadelphia near Kitchens Lane.  The volunteers helped with water diversion techniques, erosion control and helped build stone structures along the trail.

REI helped sponsor the National Trails Day restoration effort in the Wissahickon Park.

REI is a $2 billion national multichannel retail co-op headquartered outside of Seattle.

With more than 5 million active members, REI serves the needs of outdoor adventurers through innovative, quality products; inspiring classes and trips; and integrated customer service that allows shoppers to buy great gear and clothing in any way they want. REI has 130 stores in 32 states, as well as REI.com and REI.com/outlet. This year REI will invest $3 million in local communities to help care for outdoor spaces.

Another Friends of the Wissahickon work day is scheduled on the Orange Trail on Saturday, June 28 at 9:30 a.m. Volunteers should meet at the Kitchens Lane entrance. To register for the work day, email volunteer coordinator Eric Falk at: falk@fow.org. Registration is not required but is recommended in order to be notified of any changes due to weather.
