DCNR Adds Interactive Online Map For Hunters, Other Forest Visitors
|
Just in time for early-season hunting and the fall foliage viewing season, DCNR has launched a new interactive map of state forest lands across the state. “For archers planning to open their season this Saturday in state forestlands, or others planning upcoming fall foliage drives, this website is brimming with information on roads recently opened, forestry office contact numbers, even links to weather and prevailing winds,” said DCNR Deputy Secretary of State Parks and Forests Dan Devlin. “The website is geared to be an invaluable tool for hunters seeking prime locations for a variety of game, but others will find useful information when planning a visit to any of our 20 state forest districts,” Devlin said. The map shows viewers areas of timber harvests and various habitat types as well as state forest boundaries and Deer Management Assistance Program areas approved by the Pa. Game Commission. Other map overlays include bear check station locations, elk management zones and normally gated roads that will be opened when the state’s regular archery season opens October 4. “It’s all there: hunting season information, deer harvest statistics, legal hunting hours,” Devlin said. “The map also features GPS and mapping measurement tools enabling hunters and others to find the best routes on state forest lands to areas they may want to hunt or visit.” Click Here to go to the interactive map.
