Friends Of Allegheny Wilderness Mark 30th Anniversary Of PA Wilderness Act

Friends of Allegheny Wilderness Thursday marked the 30th anniversary of the signing of the federal Pennsylvania Wilderness Act permanently protecting the Allegheny Islands and Hickory Creek Wilderness Areas from all forms of development for future generations to use and enjoy.

“The Pennsylvania Wilderness Act was a tremendous asset for not only all Pennsylvanians, but also all Americans — of present and future generations. However, it was only a start,” noted FAW.   There is still at least 50,000 acres of wilderness-quality lands remaining in the Allegheny today that could and should be permanently protected as wilderness before they are lost to oil and gas drilling or other forms of commercial development.”

For more information on what you can do to extend protections for Pennsylvania’s wilderness, visit the Friends of Allegheny Wilderness website.
