Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful invites all Pennsylvanians to take part in America Recycles Day-- November 15-- a national initiative of Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s leading nonprofit that builds and sustains vibrant communities. Whether you choose to educate students, hold a recyclable collection or encourage your community members to recycle, all Pennsylvanian’s can play a part in America Recycles Day. Events can be registered at the America Recycles Day website. “The choices that we, as individuals make to both recycle and buy recycled products is what drives the success of recycling in Pennsylvania. By choosing to recycle, we are giving something once thought as garbage, whether it be a steel can or a plastic bottle, a new life,” states Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. KPB Affiliates all across the state host community seasonal recycling events where residents can properly dispose of and recycle everything from tires and appliances to electronics. Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and its affiliates have recycled 5,297,326 pounds of scrap metal and 735,499 tires since their inception in 1990. America Recycles Day is a national program of Keep America Beautiful, and is the only nationally-recognized day and community-driven awareness event dedicated to recycling in the U.S. Since its inception in 1997, communities across the country have participated in America Recycles Day on November 15 to educate, promote environmental citizenship, and encourage action. With Keep America Beautiful’s support, thousands of organizations, schools, colleges and universities, businesses, and government entities get involved in educating residents about recycling resources in their communities through collection drives, demonstrations, competitions, tours, displays and other special events. Last year, there were there were more than 1,250 educational events; nearly 570 collection events; and even 80 tailgating recycling events at collegiate football games. This year’s America Recycles Day theme, “I Want To Be Recycled,” helps to educate people about the importance of recycling to our economy and environmental well-being and helps to motivate occasional recyclers to become everyday recyclers.
