iConservePA.org: Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count Begins December 14

Here’s your chance to take part in a more-than-a-century-old holiday tradition that doesn’t involve calories, gifts or singing from iConservePA.org.

The Audubon Society’s 115th Annual Christmas Bird Count uses volunteers to collect data on birds that allow researchers, conservation biologists and other interested individuals to study the long-term health and status of bird populations across North America.

It’s the longest-running citizen scientist program in the world!

This year’s count will take place between December 14 and January 5. Everyone can participate, and it’s free.

An experienced birdwatcher leads a regional “count circle,” and those who live within the boundaries choose how they want to participate—from backyard feeder observation to local field counts.

More information can be found at the Audubon Society’s Christmas Bird Count website.  For more information on issues related to wildlife habitat, visit the Audubon Pennsylvania website.
