Help Wanted: SRBC Seeks Legislative, Public Affairs Professional

The Susquehanna River Basin Commission is seeking a Legislative and Public Affairs professional in SRBC’s office in Harrisburg who reports to the Executive Director.

The responsibilities of the position cover three key areas:

-- Legislative Relations – Assist the Executive Director with outreach to federal and state legislators and staff on activities and priorities relevant to the Commission’s mission and goals.  Track state and federal water resources legislation and promote sound water resources policy and management principles.  Identify and pursue grant and other funding opportunities.

-- Media Relations – Develop and execute a media strategy including: serving as the Commission’s spokesperson, organizing and conducting press conferences and media coverage of meetings and events, and writing and distributing press releases, feature articles and op-ed pieces.

-- Public Information – Develop and coordinate strategies and programs designed to increase public awareness and understanding of the Commission’s significant actions, programs, achievements, and special events.

Eligibility requirements for the position include:

— Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in government, legislative affairs, public relations, communications, marketing, political science or a related degree, or a technical/environmental science degree accompanied by work experience in public relations.

— A minimum of four (4) years of experience in political/legislative affairs or public  relations. Experience working on environmental and/or water resource topics is preferred.

— Strong writing and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear messages easily understood by the general public.

— Experience with identification and pursuit of grants and other funding opportunities preferred.
