Kiski Conemaugh Stream Team Issues Annual Report

The Kiski Conemaugh Stream Team, a project of the Conemaugh Valley Conservancy,  has issued their 2014 Annual Report of its activities.

Its goals are to educate and engage citizen stewards in maintaining, enhancing and restoring the natural resources of the Kiski-Conemaugh River Basin.

The Stream Team was formed in 1998 to address concerns brought to light in the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Kiski-Conemaugh River Basin Conservation Plan.

This Plan identified the needs for more environmental education and citizen engagement in monitoring the hundreds of Abandoned Mine Discharges within the 1,887 square-mile Kiski-Conemaugh River Basin, which encompasses portions of Armstrong, Cambria, Indiana, Somerset and Westmoreland Counties.

Supported by strong partnerships with watershed organizations and citizen volunteers, the Stream Team successfully manages over 180 sampling sites, monitors 35  a.m.D treatment systems, provides technical assistance to partner organizations and works with schools on connecting students to nature through Trout in the Classroom and Outdoor Discovery Workshops.

A copy of the annual report is available online.
