The Invisible River Festival will be held on August 29 from 2 to 8 p.m. in East Fairmount Park in Philadelphia to bring together the community with aerial arts performance and dance on and above the Schuylkill River. The festival, founded in 2010, is an unique celebration on the Schuylkill River that combines dance, aerial arts, visual arts, boating, music and love of the environment. The event kicks off at 2 p.m. with a group that will gather at the Mander Recreation Center as a drum-line procession leads guests along the river to the main festival site. As you enter the event area, you’ll be greeted with different experiences such as: public boat rentals and paddling lessons in canoes, kayaks, and row boats ; interactive art installations about the future of the park and the river, including a Schuylkill River mural map and a photo installation; yoga, circus, fishing and storm water management demonstrations and classes, and four local food vendors and a beer garden from Sly Fox Brewing Company. The finale performance takes place at 5:30 p.m. with an ensemble of 22 dancers using stand up paddleboards and the center of the river, while two aerialists descend from above the Strawberry Mansion Bridge for the perfect grand finale. The festival and performance are free to attend. If you would like to experience the show on the Schuylkill River itself, you must purchase tickets in advance, as no tickets for on-the-water seating will be sold at the event.
