PA Resources Council Hosts 9 Backyard Composting Workshops In Allegheny County

The PA Resources Council will host 9 backyard composting workshops in Allegheny County to teach participants how to turn kitchen scraps, leaves, garden and yard debris into homemade compost. The workshops cover the importance and benefits of composting, the process, setting up a compost pile, proper maintenance, and ways of using finished compost. Participants receive a FreeGarden EARTH Compost Bin with attendance. The bin, ideal for urban and suburban areas, has an eighty-two gallon capacity. The workshops will be held— -- September 26: Harrison Hills Environmental Learning Center from 10:30 a.m. to Noon; -- September 30: Castle Shannon Library from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.; -- October 3: Mt. Lebanon Library from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; -- October 7: Churchill Borough Building from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.; -- October 8: Bridgeville Borough Building from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.; -- October 15: Cooper-Siegel Community Library from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.; -- October 21: Heidelberg Borough Building from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.; -- October 30: Blueberry Hill Park in Franklin Park from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.; and -- November 17: National Aviary from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $70 per person/$75 per couple and pre-registration is required.
