DEP To Host Public Hearing On Falls Township Waste Facility Sept. 30

The Department of Environmental Protection will host a public hearing on September 30  regarding the proposed Elcon Recycling Services, LLC (Elcon) facility, a hazardous waste treatment facility to treat liquid waste from the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.

Elcon proposes to locate their facility in the Keystone Industrial Port Complex in Falls Township, Bucks County.

The hearing will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Sheraton Bucks County Hotel at 400 Oxford Valley Rd, Langhorne, PA 19047. It is intended to allow for public testimony exclusively on the Phase I application submitted by Elcon.

“The purpose of the Phase I siting review is solely to determine whether the proposed location complies with Pennsylvania’s exclusionary siting criteria for such operations,” DEP Southeast Regional Director Cosmo Servidio said. “This happens prior to the company submitting a full operation and design hazardous waste permit application.”

DEP will record testimony and receive written comments throughout the hearing; DEP will also accept written comments from September 30 until October 14. Written comments should be sent to: Hazardous Waste Facility Siting Team Leader, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, 2 E. Main St., Norristown, PA 19401.

Copies of the Phase I application are available for review by appointment at the following locations between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.: DEP Southeast Regional Office, 2 E. Main St., Norristown, PA 19401, 484-250-5910; and, DEP Bureau of Waste Management, Division of Hazardous Waste Management, 14th floor, Rachel Carson State Office Building, 400 Market St., Harrisburg, PA 17105, 717-787-6239.

A copy of the application is also available for review at the Levittown branch of the Bucks County Free Library 7311 New Falls Road, Levittown, PA 19055.
