The latest Environmental Focus TV program produced by the PA Environmental Council featuring DEP Secretary John Quigley talking about climate change issues is now available online.

During this in-depth, half-hour interview, Quigley discusses the potential impacts of climate change on Pennsylvania and its effects on public health, the economy, agriculture, energy, and more.

He also addresses the current status of Gov. Tom Wolf’s proposed Clean Energy Plan and the relationship between clean energy and climate change.

Some of the more significant impacts of climate change discussed by Quigley include:

-- By 2050, Pennsylvania’s climate is expected to reach that of present-day Washington, D.C. Also by 2050, Pennsylvania ski resorts will not be economically viable due to decreasing snow cover.

-- Pennsylvania’s black cherry trees are receding and are expected to continue their current rate of decline.

-- Tropical diseases, such as West Nile Virus, are increasing due to increasing temperatures that enable disease-carrying insects to thrive.
