The Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association in Montgomery and Philadelphia counties Thursday announced Rea Monaghan has joined the organization as Environmental Planner. 

In this role, Rea will oversee the water quality program and continue the grant management of the William Penn Foundation’s Delaware River Watershed Initiative for WVWA and its efforts to continue moving the needle on improving water quality and overall ecological health. 

Rea will continue the dynamic role that WVWA has played in the Delaware River Watershed Initiative’s Upstream Suburban Philadelphia Cluster. 

Rea spent the past nine years at the Bucks County Planning Commission where she was responsible for all aspects of natural resources protection, watershed-wide planning, and community outreach. 

She will be using these skills with WVWA by concentrating on environmental and integrated watershed management planning here in the Wissahickon watershed.  Additionally, she will provide a new dimension of expertise and support for the Suburban Wilderness Program - research, restoration and re-wilding of our preserves as a living legacy to nature.

Rea volunteers as a Creek Watch Citizen Scientist and serves on the Schuylkill Watershed Congress Committee. 

A resident of Lower Gwynedd Township who serves on both their Green Committee, as chair, and the Parks and Recreation Board, Rea is a detail-oriented steward of the environment who demonstrates the knowledge and experience in furthering projects that address stormwater runoff and water quality, and measures to improve natural areas and habitat. 

WVWA Executive Director Dennis Miranda said, “The expanded role and diverse skill-set that Rea brings to WVWA will allow the organization to continue pushing for committed stewardship of the Wissahickon watershed; we’re thrilled to have her on board.”
