The Fight Against Litter By Walking Stick Productions Winner Of PRC Video Contest

The PA Resources Council Friday announced the winner of its 2015 Anti-Litter Video Contest in Pittsburgh is The Fight Against Litter, produced by Walking Stick Productions.

The local production team took top honors in the second phase of PRC’s newest campaign to fight litter in the Steel City – a campaign that launched in the fall of 2014 with PRC’s “Crying Steelers Fan” video, a tribute to the Keep America Beautiful “Crying Indian” public service announcement of the 1970s.

During the past year, that video has been viewed more than 200,000 times in the southwestern Pennsylvania region.

“We are very excited to introduce Walking Stick Productions’ video as the latest vehicle to promote an anti-litter message in Pittsburgh and to highlight citizens’ ability to prevent this problem by changing their behavior,” said PRC Regional Director Justin Stockdale. “Litter is a serious problem. In 2014, cleaning up litter cost Pennsylvania taxpayers more than $1 million in Allegheny County alone.”

The winning video, “The Fight Against Litter,” features a World War II-era Allied soldier picking up litter and a powerful message from a pint-sized Rosie the Riveter, all set to the tune of the William Tell Overture.

“Walking Stick Productions’ entry took top honors by combining a powerful message with a creative and fun platform,” said Stockdale.  “Many of the other quality contest submissions showcased litter’s wide-reaching negative impacts such as threats to wildlife, danger to community members, and the contribution to urban blight.”

The winning video debuted in October at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater in East Liberty during PRC’s inaugural Wild & Scenic Film Festival.  The 30-second spot will air on KDKA-TV, PRC’s media partner for the anti-litter campaign.

“Pittsburgh is one of the great cities of the world and all of its neighborhoods, forests and rivers deserve the chance to be beautiful.  Yet this chance for beauty is poisoned by litter,” said John Bagley of Walking Stick Productions.  “We fight against litter because it is an act of love for this place and its people."
