Bipartisan Clean Water Counts In PA Resolution Introduced In House

Rep. Stan Saylor (R-York) and 40 House members from both parties introduced House Resolution 825 designating the month of May as Clean Water Counts Month in Pennsylvania (sponsor summary). The text of the resolution follows-- A Resolution Designating the month of May 2016 as "Clean Water Counts Month" in Pennsylvania. WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is estimated to have more than 83,000 miles of streams, nearly 4,000 lakes and 80 trillion gallons of groundwater; and WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has approximately 19,000 miles of rivers and streams that do not meet basic water quality standards as a result of water pollution from a variety of sources; and WHEREAS, Residents of this Commonwealth rely upon clean water for drinking, a wealth of recreational activities, tourism and, for many, their livelihood; and WHEREAS, Preventing pollution of the waters of this Commonwealth and reclaiming and restoring our waterways is essential to these purposes; and WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's ability to attract growing businesses and to provide a healthy environment for residents requires the prioritization of clean water infrastructure and funding to ensure the protection of clean water sources for residents of this Commonwealth; and WHEREAS, Clean water provides greater health, stronger communities and thriving economies in all regions of our Commonwealth; and WHEREAS, The House of Representatives recognizes the importance of clean water to the people of Pennsylvania; therefore be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the month of May 2016 as "Clean Water Counts Month" in Pennsylvania.
