|
The League Of Women Voters of PA will host the THRIVE: Sustainable Energy, Jobs & Economic Development Symposium on May 19 at the Energy Innovation Center in Pittsburgh. Sessions will cover various forms of renewable energy, as well as economic development initiatives such as those being launched by the city of Pittsburgh. Participants will hear from renewable energy businesses (such as Aquion Energy) and sustainable job-training programs. Luncheon keynote speaker Dr. Patricia DeMarco will present on "Just Transitions" for workers from the fossil fuel economy. The day will conclude with a strategic planning session on policy, including best practices to spread sustainable economic development across Western Pennsylvania. The Symposium begins at 9 a.m. (light breakfast 8:30 a.m.), includes lunch, as well as a tour of the Energy Innovation Center. The symposium is free; however, due to the limited space, invitation-only (and open to the media). Click Here for a detailed Symposium agenda. Symposium presentations will be recorded and made available to the public on the League of Women Voters Natural Gas webpage. This event is part of “The Straight Scoop on Shale” initiative funded by a Colcom Foundation grant to League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania’s Citizen Education Fund.
