The Penn State Extension’s Luzerne, Wyoming and Lackawanna county offices are now accepting applications for the 2016 Master Watershed Steward Program in northeastern Pennsylvania.   Applications are due June 17.

Master watershed stewards receive 40 hours of training on water quality, stream health, native plants, recreational resources and groundwater.

After the training, students fulfill 50 hours of volunteer service and maintain their status each year through volunteer time and continuing education.

The training program meets 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, from June 29 through mid-September along with three hands-on Saturday field trips.

For more information or an application for these counties, contact Elizabeth Rosser by telephone at 570-602-0607 or send email to: emr40@psu.edu.

The Master Watershed Steward Program is also available in Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia and York counties.

If you live in the participating counties or would like to establish a program in your county, contact Erin Frederick at 610-391-9840 or send email to: elf145@psu.edu.
