Old Anthracite Coal Miner’s Film Night July 8 In Schuylkill County

There will be an Old Anthracite Coal Miner’s Film Night July 8 starting at 8:00 p.m. at the Valley View Park, 524 Gap Street, Valley View, Schuylkill County.

This unique outdoor film night will feature original “home style” movies of anthracite coal deep mines that were recorded by the operators of anthracite coal mines from years ago.

This year’s films include movie clips from the B & M Tunnel in Hegins Township, Schuylkill County and the Shingara Mines in Zerbe Township, Northumberland County.  Other clips include “Mine Foreman Training” made with local anthracite coal mine foremen and Bush Coal Company’s Anthracite Mine from the 1950’s.

The park itself was originally owned by an old anthracite coal company and turned over to the community for community uses many years ago.

The hamburger stand will be open and food is available.

There is no admission charge for this event or reservation required.  Last year the event was so well enjoyed that organizations within the anthracite industry have decided to attend.
