Bangor— 20-year-old New Jersey man was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon at a popular and dangerous Bangor quarry, according to Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek.

The Howell, N.J., man was swimming at the abandoned slate quarry with seven other young people on Sunday, Lysek said. The coroner is not releasing the man's name until all of his family have been notified.  Click Here to read the entire Morning Call article.

This tragic incident is another reminder that abandoned quarries, coal mines and water-filled mining pits can be death traps.
