The Manada Conservancy will host an evening with naturalist and author Scott Weidensaul as he explores the expanded edition of his Mountains of the Heart: A Natural History of the Appalachians on October 12 in Hershey, Dauphin County.

The 2,000 mile-long Appalachian Mountain system is one of the oldest and most remarkable ranges in the world, stretching from the wildflower-spangled hills of central Alabama to the ice-choked edge of Newfoundland where caribou and even polar bears roam.

Weidensaul will examine the conservation challenges and successes that recent decades have brought to these seemingly timeless hills, and what the future may hold for them.

The program will be held at the Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 East Derry Road in Hershey starting at 7:00 p.m.

Manada Conservancy’s education programs are free and open to the public, but registration is encouraged by calling 717-566-4122 or send email to: office@manada.org.
