PennDOT Deputy Secretary for Multimodal Transportation, Toby Fauver Wednesday joined Cambria County Transit Authority Executive Director Rose Lucey-Noll, Board Chairman Ed Cernic, Jr. and state and local officials to break ground for a new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling station in Johnstown.

Commenting on Johnstown's new CNG fueling station, Fauver said, "PennDOT expects transit agencies like CamTran and the department to see significant savings due to initiatives like the one we've witnessed today. Through these savings, transit agencies' sustainability is increased and dependency on state operational subsidies is reduced."

"This is an historic day for CamTran, not only because CamTran will be the first transit authority in Pennsylvania to have a public/private CNG fueling station, but also because it is a sign of positive economic development in Cambria County," said Rose Lucey-Noll, CamTran executive director.

CamTran is the most recent agency to benefit from PennDOT's natural gas transit fueling station Public Private Partnership (P3) project.

"This is the final piece of modernization in public transportation in Cambria County," commented Ed Cernic, Jr., CamTran board chairman. "By adding the CNG fueling station CamTran will be able to operate more efficiently and see an increased efficiency in fuel use."

The construction is estimated to start the third week of September, and will be a 10 week build. The station will be open 24/7 to the public.

Earlier this year PennDOT announced Trillium CNG team, which includes Larson Design Group of Williamsport, had been selected for the $84.5 million P3 project.  PennDOT’s agreement with Trillium calls for building 29 new CNG stations online across Pennsylvania.
