PG PowerSource: PA To Get $110M From VW Settlement To Reduce Air Pollution

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette PowerSource’s Laura Legere reported Saturday Pennsylvania will receive $110 million to reduce air pollution from the $2.7 billion EPA settlement with Volkswagon over the company’s diesel emissions-cheating scandal.

The Department of Environmental Protection is developing a plan for investing the funds, which must be used to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions, and publish it for public comment in late spring.

The EPA settlement has determined eligible projects include retrofitting or replacing things like local freight trucks, school and public transit buses, railroad switching locomotives, ferries, forklifts and ground support equipment at airports.

DEP’s Citizens Advisory Council was briefed on the program on December 8.
