The Springfield and Marple Township Environmental Advisory Councils and the Chester-Ridley-Crum Watersheds Association are sponsoring a “Creek-Friendly Yard Care” workshop on February 23 at 7:30 in Broomall.

The free program is intended to help homeowners choose environmentally-safe products and techniques to care for their home landscapes. The presentation will include short talks, a panel of local experts to answer questions, and refreshments.

Panelists include Liz Ball, Springfield Press Garden Columnist, on lawn care; John J. Butler, EPA Region III Integrated Pest Management Coordinator, on dealing with Japanese beetles and other pests with fewer chemicals; Kenn Rapp, Springfield Township Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC), on managing stormwater; and Anne Murphy, Executive Director of the Chester-Ridley-Crum Watersheds Association (CRC).

The program will be held in the Community Room, on the lower level of the Marple Township Library/Township Building at 227 South Sproul Road (PA rte 320), at the corner of Springfield Road.

Learn more about the role that you can play in protecting our streams and their life from posters created by local scouts and students. The posters are on display in the Springfield and Marple Township library windows. Look for flyers in area nurseries and garden centers, as well as libraries.

The program is cosponsored by the Marple Public Library, CRC, Marple Environmental Advisory Board, the Springfield EAC, and the CRC MS4 Partnerships.

For more information, contact Liz Ball of the Marple EAB at 610-328-6181 or Anne Murphy at CRC, at 610-892-8731.
