Jim Clark, a former Penn State Extension educator, was given the 2017 President’s Award from Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.

Shannon Reiter, president of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, presented the award to Clark on Tuesday at a luncheon in his honor.

In 2007, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful initiated an award program to honor volunteers who have demonstrated a sustained commitment and exceptional contributions on behalf of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful to make local communities clean and beautiful.

Clark is the eighth person statewide to receive the award.

Members from the local PA CleanWays of McKean County, a Keep PA Beautiful Affiliate, were also present during the award luncheon.

Clark was instrumental in founding PA CleanWays of McKean County in 2000 and has since served as secretary and leader of the group.

Since 2000, the local group has used 962 volunteers, cleaned up more than 140 tons of trash and 31,396 tires and collected more than 1,680 pounds of unwanted medications and 39 tons of electronics.

PA CleanWays of McKean County will meet at 7 p.m. March 28 at the McKean County Conservation District office in Smethport. Anyone interested in volunteering or helping with the group’s efforts is invited to attend.

More information is available by contacting Heather McKean or Justin Lund at the McKean County Conservation District at 814-887-4001.
