DEP Meeting/Hearing Aug. 3 On Homer City Power Plant Air Quality Permit

Department of Environmental Protection Tuesday announced it will hold a public meeting and hearing August 3 on an air quality plan approval application for Homer City Generating Station located in Black Lick and Center Townships, Indiana County.

The meeting/hearing will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Homer-Center High School Auditorium at 70 Wildcat Lane, Homer City, PA 15748. The hearing will be preceded by brief presentations by DEP and the applicant and an open question and answer session.

Homer City Generation, L.P. applied for air quality plan approval for installation of lower emitting air contamination sources and/or upgrade of air cleaning devices to comply with reasonably achievable control technology (RACT II) regulatory requirements as required per 25 Pa Code Sections 129.96-100 for nitrogen oxides (NOx) for units 1 and 2 as well as an alternative compliance schedule which includes interim NOx emission limitations. 

Members of the public will have the opportunity to present testimony on the DEP’s intent to issue the plan approval and alternate compliance schedule. Comments must be limited specifically to the application and conditions of this application.

DEP requests that individuals wishing to testify at the hearing submit written notice to Lauren Fraley, Community Relations Coordinator, by sending email to: lfraley@pa.gov, via mail care of DEP’s Southwest Regional Office, 400 Waterfront Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, or by phone at 412-442-4203.

Each individual will have 5 minutes to testify and there will also be an opportunity to register on site on the evening of the hearing.

Individuals who cannot attend the hearing may submit written public comments to the attention of Alan Binder, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, 400 Waterfront Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 or send by email to: abinder@pa.gov.  Written testimony must include the commenter’s name, address, and phone number and reference the proposed Homer City Plan Approval (PA-32-00055J).
