The Westmoreland County Conservation District will host a workshop on July 26 on preventing mosquito-borne diseases in Greensburg.

Participants will discover how they may unknowingly be putting out the “Welcome" mat for mosquitoes in their backyard … and some simple steps that will reduce the number of mosquitos living and breeding on their property.

“When we reduce the number of mosquitos, we reduce the risk of contracting the diseases mosquitoes carry, including the West Nile and Zika viruses,” explained Chelsea Gross, West Nile virus program technician with the Westmoreland Conservation District, who is leading the free workshop.

The workshop also will share information on the measures being taken locally to monitor and control mosquitos in Westmoreland County.

The workshop will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Westmoreland Conservation District’s J. Roy Houston Conservation Center, 218 Donohoe Road, Greensburg.
