Keep PA Beautiful: Sign Up For International Coastal Cleanup Now Thru Oct. 31

The International Coastal Cleanup, a global initiative that aims to prevent trash from entering our waterways, began on September 1, but there is still time to register a cleanup event or volunteer. The International Coastal Cleanup runs now through October 31. Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful coordinates the effort in Pennsylvania. “We invite individuals, families, friends, civic groups, organizations and businesses to join hundreds of thousands of volunteers from around the world to pick up trash before it reaches our waterways,” said Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. “Last year 14,000 volunteers from 39 counties improved their communities by removing over 864,000 pounds of trash and debris from Pennsylvania’s lands, waterways and coastal regions during the International Coastal Cleanup event. We would like to see all 67 counties participate in the event this year.” Any cleanup site, land or water, is eligible since we all live in a watershed and all waterways flow into our coastal waters. Register your event with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and receive free gloves and bags, while supplies last. Cleanup tools and resources to help organize a safe and successful cleanup can be found online. If you are interested in coordinating an ICC cleanup or volunteering at a cleanup, please contact Michelle Dunn at 1-877-772-3673 Ext. 113 or send email to: mdunn@keeppabeautiful.org.
