WHYY & PA Horticultural Society Present Panel On Urban Placemaking Sept. 13 In Philadelphia

The PA Horticultural Society and WHYY will co-host a happy hour panel discussion, “Transforming Urban Spaces Into Gathering Places,” at the PHS Pop Up Garden at uCity Square, 36th and Filbert Streets in Philadelphia on September 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Across the country, cities are reinventing their vacant and neglected spaces in intriguing ways. Philadelphia has become a leader in transforming underutilized spaces into gathering places, offering city dwellers and visitors a range of temporary to semi-permanent options. PHS and WHYY will convene a panel on the creative approaches to public spaces and the partnerships fueling this trend. Diana Lu, community engagement editor of PlanPhilly, will moderate the discussion with local stakeholders who are executing successful techniques of design and engagement throughout Philadelphia. The panelists will be Alan Greenberger, former Deputy Mayor of Philadelphia; Matt Rader, PHS President; Joseph Reagan, Senior Vice President of Development, Wexler Science + Technology; Prema Gupta, Senior Vice President, Navy Yard Planning & Real Estate Development; and Angel Rodriguez, Vice President of Community Economic Development, Asociación de Puertorriqueños en Marcha. Drexel University provided the space at the corner of 36th and Filbert Streets for the 2017 PHS Pop Up Garden at uCity Square. Sponsors of the garden are Univest Bank and Trust Co., Wexford Science + Technology, the University City Science Center, Modelo Especial, and Philadelphia Distilling.
