The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy Thursday released its annual State Energy Efficiency Scorecard which found Pennsylvania ranks 19th among the states for the second year in a row for implementing energy efficiency programs, same as last year.

"Energy efficiency is already big business in Pennsylvania - providing 62,000 jobs and delivering billions in benefits for energy customers,” said Julian Boggs, Policy Director for the Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance.  “Leaders in Harrisburg shouldn't be satisfied with our middle-of-the-pack ranking, and need to build on the success of pro-efficiency policies like Act 129.”

Among other findings, the report said, “To strengthen efficiency, Pennsylvania could remove the cost cap for efficiency measures and set more aggressive savings targets that include natural gas. Opportunities remain to adjust utility business models to align incentives with efficiency.

“Policies to encourage efficient transportation systems and streamline the building code adoption process could also further expand energy savings for Pennsylvanians and improve the state’s standing in the State Scorecard.”
